So what is the different between the insight meditation to gain insight of a subject of study compare with the insight meditation for liberation ?

The answer is very simple, the insight meditation to gain insight of a subject of study is an outward observation from the self. While the insight meditation for liberation is an inward observation to investigate the self.

As in zen or chan, one investigate “ who am I before my parents was born” is an insight meditation.

As in the Diamond sutra or Vajra prajnaparamita sutra, it says:

“ No appearance of self, no appearance of human, no appearance of living beings, No appearance of a life”. No appearance of self means no self, no appearance of human means not taking the present human appearance as self. no appearance of living being means not taking the appearance of ones’ past life ( may be I am a pig) as self. no appearance of a life means not taking the appearance of the future ( may be I will reincarnate as a monkey) as self.

The Buddha has given the answer of No Self. But one needs to go through the insight meditation practice such as in Zen or Satipathana or Vipasana to experience the no self to no longer hold on or attach to the self concept,  And at the instant of experience the no self, that is attaining the enlightenment.

That is completely different than the “ talking zen” which is reasoning, get philosophical, interpret, speculate with one’s point of view  in the thinking function within the mind layer based on self, and end up in the star location on the left of the calmness-awareness map; rather than via the deep calmness meditation observe and break through the holding or attachment of the self concept, and liberate from self concept, as in the right hand side of the calmness-awareness map.

So, how difficult is to get this insight meditation stuffs clear out? Not difficult at all with process modeling.

But then, if you think I have attain enlightenment, then you will be surprised by my reaction to revenge if I got betrayed. That reaction shows I am self- centered and not enlighten yet.

To get to liberation is not an easy path, one has to develop the deep calmness via calmness meditation as the prerequisite to work with the insight meditation. And, to really understand what the Buddhist scripture means also needs a certain level of calmness development. Or else, one will simply sit in the cafe and debate ones point of view in the star location of the calmness-awareness map. Thus, it is a disaster to call everything vipasana meditation without be able to know the difference between Samatha or calmness meditation develop calmness and awareness; And vipasana or insight meditation which is a vehicle to break or to detach the concept of self.

Finally,
If one has some realization of what liberation is like, then when one heard the following type of ideas,

‘You would not suffer for accept thing or this moment as it is. But you won’t be able to surrender unless you completely feed up with suffering. Most of the Suffering is self created, it Is created out of resistance.”

one will know, this type Idea Is based on a self, a product of thinking function of the mind layer, and have no awareness on the four layers. This type of ideas is belong to the star location, it sounds right but it is only limited mainly within the thinking function of the mind layer.
